During expressive arts classes, children from 6 to 10 years old are invited to use artistic creation as a means of self-expression. By doing so, they are able to work through difficulties they may encounter at school and/or within the home. This allows them to seek and find their innerselves and serenity .
Children use the basic techniques of visual arts (paintings, drawing, collage) to create original works that will support their development.
Indeed, art therapy uses the process of creation and artistic expression in a caring and supportive environment which allows children, faced with different kinds of issues, to communicate symbolically.
By creating and producing works of art, children can mobilise their internal resources in a constructive way and, gradually, they can improve their daily lives and develop in a positive way. Through this process, they may also discover hidden capacities, qualities and strengths.
Expressive arts help increase children’s knowledge of themselves, their self-esteem and their self-confidence, which also impacts positively upon their relationship with themselves and others.
